Rumours about a new Alan Wake game were abound last month, after internet sleuths uncovered a trademark for something called "Alan Wake's Return". Fans of the titular monster-fighting horror-novelist might want to prepare for disappointment, though, as Remedy has revealed exactly what the character's return actually is.

"Alan Wake's Return" isn't a new game, as it turns out. Speaking to Kotaku, creative director Sam Lake explains that the trademark relates to their upcoming Quantum Break game. The "Alan Wake Returns" title covers a live-action TV show that will appear inside the world of Quantum Break.

Other than that, Lake has nothing specific to offer hopeful Alan Wake fans about a new game in the series: "Other than that, we are exploring possibilities and concepting different things, but lots needs to click into place for anything to happen. We will be the first to talk about it when there is something definite to talk about."
