Dutch game developer Triumph Studios have announced Age of Wonders III - a new entry in the strategy series that built the company back in the day.

"In Age of Wonders 3, we extrapolate RPG style classes to be the leaders of fantasy empires." says Lennart Sas, Development Director at Triumph. "For example: as a Goblin Theocrat you can build your own holy empire, recruit little goblin crusaders or cute winged goblin angels equipped with flaming weapons, and wage war on your heathen enemies. We want players to be able to choose between lots of different play styles, without being restricted by fantasy clichés, like All Goblins Are Evil."

The Overlord developers first teased the project on Facebook where they also explained to fans how they had been working on pre-production and prototypes of "Overlord"-style games, and that they were hoping to return to a comedy style action-RPG setting with minions, but that it was unknown whether it would be Overlord III (as Codemasters hold the rights).

"Since Summer 2009 when Overlord 2 has been released, we have been working on multiple unannounced projects. The project we're about to announce today isn't Overlord 3 or a spiritual sequel. However we have done extensive pre-production, engine work and playable prototypes on projects that would very much appeal to Overlord fans. But with all the volatility in our industry and the coming console transition, the planets haven't aligned favorably for this type of project to be taken into full scale production - yet. We have high hopes that in the future we'll be able to bring you humor filled action rpg games with added minions. Overlord was blast to make. Please bear with us that we can't talk freely about any future Overlord titles specifically as this series is owned by publisher Codemasters."
