Earlier this week, it was announced by Red Bull that their legendary automotive designer Adrian Newey would be leaving the team. Newey has been responsible for leading the development on Red Bull's Formula 1 cars for almost two decades, during which the team has won seven driver world championships (and seemingly on the way to an eighth) and a collection of constructor championships too. However, amid the turmoil facing the team, Newey has decided to depart Red Bull, but not before he completes one last job.

And no, this isn't in reference to the 2024 F1 season, although a victory here for RB will no doubt be accredited in part to Newey's efforts too. Rather, Newey's final task for the team will be to see the final touches and design elements completed for the RB17, which is a track hypercar that has been in-development for years.

Newey will be leaving RB in early 2025, and he's now on gardening leave for the F1 division, which effectively means he's no longer involved in the day-to-day, allowing all his time and effort to ne focussed on the RB17 and ensuring it is completed before he departs the team.

Speaking about this decision, Newey added, "I feel now is an opportune moment to hand that baton over to others and to seek new challenges for myself. In the interim, the final stages of development of RB17 are upon us, so for the remainder of my time with the Team my focus will lie there."
