A new game is coming for Nintendo 64, 16 years later
The classic PS1 game 40 Winks has had a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Retro game developer Piko Interactive is reviving a game dead from almost 17 years ago, as PS1 platformer 40 Winks (Ruff and Tumble in Europe) is coming this year to Nintendo 64 thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. The story says that 40 Winks was in development for the N64 when publisher GT Interactive decided to stop the port while trying to survive financial troubles, and when Infogrames acquired the company this version was cancelled.
40 Winks is a traditional, colourful action platformer of its time with six fantasy-themed worlds. In the game you control two brothers, Ruff and Tumble, switching between them or at the same time in a new co-op mode. Gameplay revolves around characters transforming into a ninja, monster, or superhero, and also different mini-games included inside the levels.
The crowdfunding campaign hit the lowest goal in just a day, meaning the game will be distributed in September. The cost of the fully functional N64 cartridge, including the typical game manual inside the old box, will be 45€, but you can get a Steam code for just 7€. Piko Interactive has since set two higher stretch goals for backers who want a N64 controller and a N64 console shell in purple, so check those out if you're interested.
What do you think of retro releases?
