Currently, Deadlock is in closed beta and is invite-only. To play the game, you must receive an invite from someone who already has access and has you on their Steam friend list. It is only available to play on PC. The game is in its development stage currently, so any information below is subject to change!
What is the lore behind the game?
Deadlock is an up-and-coming 6v6 third-person shooter MOBA developed by Valve, the creators of the service Steam and most notably, the Half-Life series of games.
Deadlock is set in an alternative version of 1940s New York known as the Cursed Apple. Two teams fight against each other to complete a ritual that summons their respective Patrons (The Archmother or The Hidden King) in order for them to be granted one wish. Each character has their own reason for wanting to summon the Patron, but some include money, eternal youth and wanting to be returned to their home.
The occult and magic are commonplace within the world of Deadlock, and the roster of champs makes sure to highlight the weird and zany world in which they reside (there is even a champ that is made entirely of goop!).
What are the rules of the game?
To play the game, each team will begin to fight in lanes of 2v2s. These lanes are named York (yellow), Greenwich (green) and Broadway (blue) and each have a zip line running throughout in order for players to traverse the map with ease. To win the game, the team must kill the enemy patron while simultaneously defending theirs. To 'push' lanes, teams must defeat enemy Guardians, Walkers, Base Guardians, Shrines and then finally the Patrons.

Which Champ should I pick?
In my opinion, the best starting champ is Abrams. Abrams is known as the 'detective' and is fighting in the ritual to understand why he is bound to the book he is carrying in the game. Abrams' kit is described as being a 'tank, a brawler and bull-headed'. His primary abilities focus around charging and stunning enemies while slowly regenerating himself after impact. Abrams' fundamentals are driven by his melee attacks, which make him the perfect starter champ, as light melees, heavy melees and parrying in Deadlock are very important. Stunning an enemy can be the difference between life and death. Abrams does carry a gun, but his fists are his primary weapons, and his firearm is mostly used for taking out creeps or peppering damage from mid-range.
How does the store work and what are the best perks for each champ?
There are shops within the map and at the base of each team for Champs to buy items that level their character's abilities and weapons in order to gain an advantage; these can be purchased with the game's currency, Souls. Souls can be obtained through a multitude of different ways, for example, killing creeps, killing enemy players, completing a 'sinner's sacrifice' or destroying 'camps'. Take Abrams, for example; his kit is centred around Spirit (with Vitality and Weaponry being the other two options). Therefore, when accessing the shop, you should purchase almost entirely Spirit items for his character. There are starter builds recommended for each champ that scale with their respective kits, so don't worry if you forget!

What is 'Street Brawl'?
Street Brawl is a shorter, more fast-paced game in which two teams of six fight in one lane in three rounds in order to destroy the enemy's Guardian and then their Walker. These games can be really useful for new players, as they give you a chance to understand the kits of all of the champs and also try them out to see if they suit your playstyle.
I love this game! When will it get an official release?
So far, we are unsure of the official release date for Deadlock, as it is still in the alpha stages. The most recent update, Old God's New Blood, overhauled a lot of the game's mechanics and introduced a multitude of new Champs and map changes, making the game look more 'polished'. Therefore, we can safely assume that a release date will definitely be within the near future. There is a Discord Server dedicated to Deadlock created by Valve Developer's to share news and updates regarding the state of the game so follow along with that in order to see the latest news.
