The annual Evo tournament-slash-festival has been the most important event on the fighting game scene for years, and shows no signs of slowing down. Quite the opposite, in fact, as the Street Fighter tournament at this year's event is breaking all attendance records.
A whopping 4,000 players have signed up to compete in the Street Fighter V tournament at Evo, the organizers revealed on Twitter. That's quite a bump compared to last year's Evo, where 2,227 players had signed up to compete in Ultra Street Fighter IV. And with registration still open, that number will increase even further before the tournament kicks off in mid-July.
While Street Fighter V is the marquee competition at Evo, the event is also hosting tournaments in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Killer Instinct, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Pokken Tournament, Mortal Kombat X, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Guilty Gear X and Tekken 7. Evo takes place in the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on July 15-17.
