Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning developer 38 Studios are having a real tough time at the moment according to a report on Gamasutra. This last week they were unable to pay their employees wages, and they also missed payment of a loan to Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation earlier this month ($1.125 million). The studio, based in Rhode Island, had 379 full-time employees as of March 15, and are working on MMORPG Copernicus set in the same world as Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. They were also thought to be developing a sequel to said game.

38 Studios' owner Curt Schilling is said to be seeking funding, but things are looking grim for the developer. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was met with good reviews and sold decently (330,000 copies in the US), but it seems 38 Studios would have needed far better sales.
