In two weeks, the noir detective game Blacksad: Under the Skin, which is based on the black cat's iconic comic books, will be released on pc and consoles. Today the publisher Microids shared 20 minutes of gameplay in preparation for the upcoming release, featuring a variety of gameplay systems.

The story of Blacksad: Under the Skin is staged in New York in the 1950s. Private detective John investigates the disappearance of a young boxer and the murder of his father, only to sting into a dangerous wasp's nest of corruption and violence. In the game, we need to find clues, interview potential eyewitnesses and investigate various incidents, as you can see in the video below.

During the conversation, the player has different dialogue options that determine what kind of hints we receive, if any at all, and how Blacksad's relations with the different characters turn out. Sometimes one might even choose to not say anything and escape from an unpleasant situation or put someone under additional pressure by doing so.

If a situation cannot be saved, there will be action sequences, which are played out through classic quick-time events (QTEs). If we fail them, we have to repeat the sequence, as confirmed by developer Pendulo Studios via the official press release. Because Blacksad is a cat, his vision and sense of smell are heightened and he listens much better than we humans do. We will use these skills to gain new insights into our case.

Blacksad: Under the Skin will be released on November 14th on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4. Starting on November 28th, the title will also be available on the Nintendo Switch. Players in the US have to wait until December 10 for their turn.
