Edge Online published an interview with Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) today wherein he had some things to say about the development of The Last Guardian and his decision to go freelance.

"Putting aside the short-term output, more than anything I feel terribly sorry that for various reasons I have kept my audience waiting for such a long time."

"Maintaining motivation is all about producing something great. A hobby or alcohol might help to refresh you temporarily, but they won't motivate creativity. Also, the original staff members on Ico and SOTC are just as fussy over details as I am. I always want to create quickly, and I always want to increase the rate of production. In the case of The Last Guardian, my creative work was mostly finished a long time ago, but the details of when, where and how it will be completed are beyond my control."

Exactly what's going on with The Last Guardian is hard to tell, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that if it's still coming, it's coming to PlayStation 4. Recently, the PlayStation 4 All Access special on Spike TV included a clip with Shuhei Yoshida being asked about the game and while his answers revealed very little, the fact that Sony allowed for the questions to be included should say something about what's going on.

REVIEW. Written by Ricardo C. Esteves

"Unlike many game worlds, which seem to have been built to serve gameplay, the setting here feels organic and plausible."
