Fledgling developer Studio MONO has just announced their debut title, Insomnia, and they're describing it as a real-time tactical online RPG with retro-futuristic stylings and a dystopian diesel-punk universe.

That's certainly a lot imagery to get your head around, so here's a brief description of what players will be experiencing when the game lands at the end of 2014.

InSomnia takes place on a gargantuan, half-deserted space station 400 years in to its journey slowly making its way to an elusive planet known only as the Evacuation Point. Inhabited by the descendants of the Normans, a race of people who escaped their home planet several centuries earlier after it became inhospitable due to a cataclysmic conflict, most of the station has long been abandoned and is now known by the remaining inhabitants as the Dump.

The game is already 18 months into development, and the studio are aiming to create an alternative to "big-budget, creatively superficial MMO's" that will include a "complex, multi-layered RPG taking place in genuine real-time, with a flexible character advancement system, original game mechanics, all set in a carefully constructed universe."

There's a trailer for you to watch, alongside a couple of pieces of concept art.
