Valve has been discussing its DOTA2 web-comic, based on the upcoming strategy game of the same name, letting the company "flesh out" the lore of the franchise.

Speaking to comic site Newsarama, the publisher explained how the comic, available to view on any browser is far from a cheap cash-in, as it keeps things in-house.

"Several years ago, we started hiring comics professionals with the specific intention of building an internal comics team from the ground up," it explains. "Gradually we have all been learning how this works, sharing artists and writers between all the teams, developing ideas that come directly out of the games but exist in a slightly different space."

The comic revolves around the shopkeeper, described as DOTA's "persistently unchanging" character from game to game, and "a good focus for kicking off stories set in this world, a central spot where all the heroes eventually stop by and stories might be told and shared."

The company promise readers can download copies of the comic as well as a number of different wallpapers, but more importantly apply for a spot as a beta tester. Click the link above to find out more.
