GRTV caught up with Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada at Gamescom to discuss the future of the Iron Fist Tournament.

He was talking after a presentation detailing three new releases in the franchise: the film Blood Vengeance, the PS3-bound Tekken Hybrid which included the a HD version of the original Tekken Tag, as well as Tag 2 Prologue, and the 3DS game Prime Edition.

Explaining Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue, the creator stated that it was due to two factors: the new movie and the lack of arcades in the West.

"It came about first when we were thinking about releasing the movie," Harada-san said. "It wouldn't be very creative to release it by itself.

"At the time we'd announced Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and this would hit the arcades mainly in Japan and Asia. but with arcades not so common in US or Europe anymore we wanted to give players the chance to try out the game on their home console. But also a lot of players wanted to play the original Tag after we announced the sequel, so we wanted to put this all on one disc for the players to enjoy.

Of the 3DS version, he was proud to announce that the fighter would run at 60FPS even with the 3D turned up fully. "We've had our programmers working really hard," he says. The game will also include Blood Vengeance on the cartridge, letting you watch the movie in full 3D.

When asked about dropping arcade sticks for the smaller 3DS buttons, he laughed.

"It is true, most people are used to playing with the sticks in the arcade. The 3DS buttons may seem smaller, but there are some advantages. Because the buttons are smaller, its easier to hit two simulentiously. We've also had to add some shortcuts on the Touch Screen to perform different manoeuvres."

REVIEW. Written by Gillen McAllister

"A full compliment of modes both online and off, galleries, customisation options and ending movies prove Tag 2's been treated as the real deal rather than offshoot oddity."
