The Xbox 360 version of id Software's Rage will offer an install option of 22Gb when the game is released this October.

The optional installation is "the way to go" according to John Carmack, who spoke at length of the company's new shooter during his Quakecon keynote.

"On the 360 we don't have a partial install option; it's all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate," he explained. "It means you have to install 21/22GB of stuff which takes a long time but if you've got it and you play it on the 360 that's the way to go."

The Xbox 360 version will ship on multiple discs. The keynote - all one hour and a half of it - makes for interesting viewing. Watch the whole thing here.
