One of the last huge games coming to Playstation 3 will be Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls. Bengt Lemne tries to find out more about the game from writer and director David Cage, at the same time as trying not to find out too many spoilers.

"It's always a tricky situation, where you need to show parts of the game to convince people to get interested in it, and at the same time you don't want to spoil the game for people who know they're going to want it anyway. So it's a difficult balance to find."

Cage then explained to us what makes the game so unique: "It's unlike most other games that you've played before. It's not a game where you've got mechanics and each scene is just a different level. Here in each scene it's a different setting, a different situation, a different age for Jodie, a different way for her to move, to talk, a different way she looks, and each scene is almost a different story."

Quantic Dream's last game, Heavy Rain, was incredibly popular despite cutting its own path. Cage revealed what the two games have in common, and what makes them unique: "The two games are different and similar at the same time... What we try to do is have games with meanings, games that say something. We pay a lot of attention to the emotions that you're going to feel when you play, and of course it's pretty much story driven."

"But the two games are very different," he continued. "They have a different balance, they tell a different story, and I would say Beyond is a very different gameplay mechanic, that is totally new compared to Heavy Rain, which is the possibility to control a human being, Jodie Holmes, but at the same time you can switch at any time to the ghost Aiden that she shares a link with, and you can play as the ghost. So you can switch from one point of view to another, you can make the two collaborate.

"What was very important to us was also the fact that this spirit, this entity, is not just a power, it's really a character with his own personality and his own goals and his own taste and his own skills."

He finished up by stressing how Beyond will differ from Heavy Rain: "The game is bigger in size, bigger in scope, it's more spectacular, it's more epic in many ways, but at the same time you have these very epic moments, but at the same time you have these very intimate moments. It's a journey into someone's life. "

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"The story itself is really enjoyable (if slightly predictable); a good thing considering so much weight hangs on its ability to entertain."
