Todd Batty, SSX's Creative Director, has been talking to GRTV about the new generation rendition of EA's popular sports series, discussing how it'll be a "launching point" for a new franchise.
"We didn't just want to do a quick sequel," Batty explained to returning to the slopes of SSX, "have it done and have to wait another five years. We really wanted this to be the launching point of a great franchise for this generation that we could build on in the future."
Batty also outlines the studio's proprietary tech called 'Mountain Man', which allowed the team to create 3D renditions of the world's biggest mountains in a staggeringly swift 28 seconds, as well as reasons for the wing-suits and Deadly Descents, which received some criticism when both appeared in the game's debut trailer.
"We've always looked on it that SSX being on the cutting edge," the director says. "Ahead of the cutting edge of what people are doing in real life. When we started this game today and had a look round to see what snowboarders are doing in the real world right now, it's insane.
"Guys are finding lines and wearing wing-suits and parachutes and they're jumping off cliffs...and we, as an arcade title, need to be on the cutting edge of that...that's what Deadly Descents are about...each one acts as a boss battle in the game."
