As we reported yesterday, the Incarna 1.0 patch for EVE Online brought with it an item store called The Noble Exchange which carries a monocle costing around €70 if you want to buy it straight up for money. That was enough to send a riptide of discontent through parts of the EVE community, especially among players that were opposed to the idea of an item shop in the first place (and especially among the players opposed to the whole Incarna-concept as well). Now an alleged leaked internal newsletter has shown up on the net, initially posted on website EVE News 24.

The document posted by EVE News 24 had a couple of pages removed, but a full version of the newsletter surfaced as well - featuring the disclaimer that everything in it was the personal opinions of the respective writers. Still, a couple of things in it did stick in players' eyes, including statements like CCP planning to fund World of Darkness through microtransactions, that "not all virtual purchases [in EVE Online] will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright," and that the company does consider selling faction standings (an important mechanic in the game) for money. CCP have previously promised that any items added to the Noble Exchange will not impact gameplay in any way, which this newsletter seems to contradict.

At this point in time it's not known if the newsletter is real or a very ambitious fake. CSM-member Seleene, who used to work for CCP, has confirmed that the company do circulate newsletters like this. "If it is [a fake] then it's been faked internally, and that looks like a LOT of effort for a fake," he wrote on the EVE forum Failheap Challenge. "The tone of this one certainly fits the style I was used to seeing."
