Sinster overtones, a sunny-kissed jungle environment, gunfire and odds very much not in your favour; all that in a ten minute demo and we were still surprised when the title Far Cry 3 flashed up on screen.

That's right, the open-world shooter is back and offered a fantastic debut at Ubisoft's E3 Conference. The game, visually at least, is a massive step back towards the vibrant colours of the original game as opposed to the gritty tones of the second. A move that's definitely in its favour, and offers a strong and uncomfortable contrast to the content shown in the demo.

The gameplay offered a quick jaunt from a cliffside plunge after a heavily-monloguing villain pushes you over the edge while tied to a stack of crates, a few stealth kills as you grab some weapons, and an extended firefight through a village against civilian-murdering gunmen, and the shortest helicopter flight known to man as you're shot down moments after taken off.

"There's so much content here, it's detailed, engaging, and for the most part it hangs together perfectly."
