Starbreeze Studios have announed on theirFacebook page that Payday 2 - sequel to Payday: The Heist - is set for release in August on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The predecessor was only released on PC and PS3, but with a switch of publishers from Sony Online Entertainment to 505 Games, the game will now also hit Microsoft's console.
Payday 2 is being developed by Overkill Software who merged with Starbreeze Studios last year. The Stockholm based developer got into a little bit of hot water over a (putting it mildly) slightly sexist video meant to attract female extras for a proposed Payday movie. The studio issued a statement that the video was only a pitch that had been rejected, and that they had nothing to do with the video being published online.
If we focus more on the game, it will feature more of a progression system and backbone in terms of what mission are available to you. Missions will drop sort of like loot in an action-RPG so that you may get a rare one with a special reward. Other than that, it's all about pulling heists and getting away with it.
