Microsoft has announced it'll kick off Anniversary celebrations this August as the Halo franchise turns ten years old.

While the celebrations won't officially begin until Penny Arcade's Expo come August 26, Microsoft has already started to polish the golden ring, with this Friday ushering in a massive update for Xbox 360's Halo Waypoint.

The one-stop hub for all things Halo on your Xbox 360 Dashboard, will get performance enhancing stimulants with new features, such as the ability to track every inch of your Halo: Reach service record.

Come Saturday 23 April, the Halo universe caretaker 343 Industries will release a new motion comic series entitled "The Mona Lisa", which is set in the aftermath of the first game's events, as a UNSC ship finds drifting derelict amongst the remains of the original Halo ring.

Also available from today is a horde of new Halo-branded Avatar items and action figures will hit Dashboard as well.

Sounds like Microsoft is doing a spring clean and readying Waypoint for something big in the future. Could this all be build up to the reveal of the much-rumoured remake of the original Halo?
