We knew that Minecraft was selling well, but now Markus "Notch" Persson - the original creator - has told Gamasutra exactly how much it has sold to date. According to Notch, Mincecraft sold in 800,000 copies while in alpha status at €9.95 and since it went into beta and raised the price to €14.95 it has sold in another one million copies.
That's a total of a nice €23 million, which is quite a lot of money for an indie designer - especially since Mojang, Notch's company, is self-publishing the game.
"It all ends up in an account somewhere, and I try not to look at it. I get a normal salary these days for day to day stuff, but there's a big pile somewhere. Paypal takes a cut, there are taxes, and such, but it's still a huge wad of money," Notch said.
