MCV is reporting that a new Resident Evil title is in the works, and Capcom is outsourcing the development to Canadian developer Slant Six.

Sources indicate that the latest issue of OXM US will break the story. The developer, who worked on Sony's SOCOM series, is apparently working on Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City, which like Resident Evil 3, is set during the zombie outbreak. You play as a Umbrella Security Services team sent in to take out any survivors.

Capcom outsourcing one of its biggest franchises should be no surprise, given it let western developer Blue Castle work on Dead Rising 2. And the developer apply it's previous work, we might see the first Ghost Recon-style Resident Evil - and given the time frame slots this in between RE2 and RE3, it'll be interesting to see if any characters return.

"No Hope Left" could be the motto for Resident Evil fans predicting the armageddon of the series, rather than the advertising campaign for Resident Evil 6 teasing the in-game global apocalypse to come.
