In a revealing interview, Dontnod's Jean-Max Morris has spoken about how the game was rejected by several publishers because of the game's female lead.

From the start Remember Me's creative director and his team believed that protagonist Nilin had to be a woman: "It was not a decision. It was something that just felt right from the beginning. It's one of those things that we never looked at from a pure, cold marketing perspective because that would have endangered the consistency of the whole game."

But it was a decision that almost scuppered the entire enterprise, that is until Capcom picked the game up.

"We had some that said, 'Well, we don't want to publish it because that's not going to succeed. You can't have a female character in games. It has to be a male character, simple as that,'" Morris told Penny Arcade.

Remember me is due out on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on June 7, after recently being pushed back from its planned May release.

REVIEW. Written by Mika Sorvari

"We really hope that Dontnod will continue making games in this exciting universe, but that they open up their concept from what it is now, and give their players more choice."
