Bungie have finally laid the cards on the table with their much anticipated first game post-Halo - Destiny. Make sure you watch the trailer "Pathways out of Darkness" below.

Destiny is being described as the world's first "shared-world shooter", and is co-op focused online making use of the concept of a common world that MMO players will feel right at home with where you'll find quests around every corner and dedicated areas where larger groups can take on a challenge. There will be both shooter missions and vehicle-based missions.

Bungie makes mention of various classes - including Hunter, Titan and Warlock, but it is unknown what number of classes there will be and what separates these classes.

The game is played out in a distant future where manking is under siege by an unknown enemy determined to put an end to humanity. The few human survivors that remain managed to do so thanks to the spherical space ship The Traveller.

You play as a Guardian, a soldier tasked with defending what little remains of human civilisation. Things are looking very bleak, but thanks to the advanced weaponry of The Traveller there is at least a chance.

Destiny is going to require an internet connection and there is not going to be any offline mode - and this is true on both PS3 and Xbox 360. However, there is not going to be a subscription fee.

Bungie did not mention next-gen console at this point, but issued a vague hint...

"We're absolutely going to be on this generation of consoles. When we came to the big collaboration with Activision we said we're going to tell these adventures over a 10-year period, so we need to make sure we're prepared for the future, both in upcoming generations and multiple platforms and devices themselves."
