After being in development for almost three years Activision officially put an end to the development of United Front Games' True Crime: Hong Kong last night. The game was first announced at the Spike TV Video Game Awards in December 2009 and was expected to launch last fall, however it slipped over quality concerns and was given a vague "2011" date. Last month a proposed press tour to the developer was cancelled, but the was part of Activision's GDC line up to the bitter end. In the end it was quality concerns that killed the game, Activision simply felt it wasn't good enough to compete with the likes of GTA and Saints Row, something we sadly have to say we agree with from what little we've seen of the game.

Vancouver based United Front Games (ModNation Racers) offered the following comment on their website:

"We are sorry we did not get a chance to complete this project with Activision, but we understand why. We are both committed to doing quality games and nothing less. Maybe we will have a chance to work together in the future, but in the meantime we are setting our creative sights on a different horizon. You can keep up with the latest developments at UFG here on our site."

Hopefully, United Front Games can bounce back with some other project, but currently they haven't announced anything they are working and given the size of the studio it's future is looking bleak at the moment if they can't secure another big project.

Below is an interview with the developer from last year's GDC.

REVIEW. Written by Petter Hegevall

"This is a violent and particularly rich history of war in the underworld, corruption, morality, loyalty and organized crime."
