During a session at the ongoing D.I.C.E. summit in Las Vegas, Nevada it was confirmed that J.J. Abrams (Alias, Lost, Star Trek) is in talks with Valve to make films based on Half-Life and Portal.
Speaking with Polygon, J.J. Abrams had the following comments on the co-operation.
"It's as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets. Which is that we are really talking to Valve, we are going to be bringing on a writer, we have a lot of very interesting ideas."
Basically, Abrams wants to do it and has ideas, but it still remains to be seen whether anything can come out of it. At D.I.C.E. J.J. Abrams was on stage discussing storytelling with none other than Gabe Newell, so at least we know they're getting along.
