The Techland developer Dead Island, a game that mixes two popular themes - zombies and holiday resorts - has sold in excess of 5 million copies it is being reported much to the delight of publisher Deep Silver. This puts the game in the same bracket as successful hits like Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and L.A. Noire.

The sequel, Dead Island: Riptide is scheduled for release April 26 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
