One common criticism about Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is that the world starts feeling empty towards the end, and it turns out Monolith wants to avoid this in the upcoming sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

New information has emerged online revealing that there will be two endings in the highly anticipated game, as a kind of mini-campaign called Shadow Wars will start when you finish the "main" story, and Sauron's army will then launch a counter attack against you, trying to retake the fortresses you control.

The game is basically reversing the roles you had when attacking the fortresses the first time around, as it's now you who must hold various capture points until you've killed or dominated all of the opposing warchiefs. These attacks will be split into various stages, with more regions coming under attack and the enemies becoming progressively harder for each stage. Succeed in defending a fortress, and it'll remain yours. Fail, and Sauron will regain control of it, which means that you'll have to take it back again if you want to move on to the next stage.

Fear that this will get repetitive and go on forever? Don't worry. Like we said, this is just what you might call a mini-campaign. Managing to defend your fortresses for a certain amount of stages will reward you with the game's "true" ending, which will supposedly be tied directly into the Lord of the Ring's story as we know it. We don't know exactly how this will work, but call us intrigued.

Do you think you will go for the "true" ending, or call it the day after the first one?

"Once again it's the Nemesis system to the rescue; it'll provide the most memorable moments of your experience in Mordor."
