A few new details on the upcoming Dark Souls II have surfaced thanks to an article in Edge.
The game has been in development since September 2011, and the game world is approximately the same size as it was in the predecessor. Game director Tomohiro Shibuya had plenty to say about how they aim to make the game more accessible to player from the very beginning.
"Accessibility to players who haven't picked up Dark Souls is definitely a key topic. Right in the beginning when players first pick up the game is something that I will definitely focus on. To not immediately throw them into Dark Souls but provide a good introduction in terms of what the game's about and how the game should be played.
In the full 10-page article Shibuya explains that time will play an important part in the game, and he also talks more extensively about certain aspects.
"I personally feel the covenant system was something that was difficult to fully absorb and experience in Dark Souls. I intend to make it more accessible to players. And that's not just with the covenant system, but with a lot of other aspects that I felt were difficult to adapt to."
"We want to constantly think of something new that hasn't been tried before, so that's where that idea of the chariot came up. Being in a ship or boat is definitely something we are considering but being able to control one is not in the works."
With all this said, don't expect Dark Souls II to be a walk in the park.
