Ex-Bungie, now Microsoft's Frank O'Connor has stated that not only do the company want a Halo movie, it will happen.

Quizzed after a Future of Television East conference in the US last week, the head of 343 Industries, the outfit set up to carry the Halo baton for Microsoft after Bungie handed it post-Reach, spoke of the problems the movie ran into before, and why he could see it even stretch into a Band of Brothers-style TV series.

The original movie, that had been on the cards for a while, fell apart when lawyers tried to draft up contracts between Microsoft and a movie studio. "The problem was that the movie company couldn't make any money beyond the movie," said Frank, referring to the fact all licensing would still be property of Microsoft.

However, O'Connor suggested that Microsoft might see about stumping up the cash itself. "There will be a Halo movie. We don't need a movie. But we'd like a movie. We'd like the moms of gamers to see the movies because they would love our characters. Maybe we'll even fund it ourselves."

If that comes to past hopefully the company will do better than some.

The company could also expand into a television series. "We'd love to see Halo as a television series. Look what HBO did with Band of Brothers or even Rome. Something like that would work because the Halo universe is so vast.

In a miniseries or a longer running series, fans would be treated to deeper, more explorative narrative that drills down deep into the Halo mythos - if the writers and directors were intelligent enough."

Such comments tie in with what he said at the panel itself, stating that the company would "want to have Halo on any screen we have access to."

343 Industries is currently hiring for numerous positions, all falling under the same umbrella of 'Halo Job'.
