Microsoft have revealed some impressive stats from the launch of Halo 4. It managed to generate revenue of $220 million (£139 million) in the first 24 hours and is on track to do $300 million in the first week. So far, until the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 numbers are in, Halo 4 stands as the largest entertainment launch of the year beating The Avengers.

"We're thrilled that ‘Halo 4' has emerged as the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of the year," said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios. "Thanks to the millions of fans worldwide who helped make this another record-breaking launch for the ‘Halo' franchise, ‘Halo 4' is kicking off a strong holiday season and has become the must-have blockbuster experience of the year."

As far as the franchise goes sales are now in excess of $3.38 billion, since the launch of the original Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001. More than 4 million players went online with their copy of the game in the first 5 days, totalling 31.4 million hours of playtime.

Microsoft were also proud to announce that the live action web series Halo: Forward Unto Dawn had been seen by a total of 46 million viewers to date.
