Modders running the DayZ Bounty mod have been asked by Bohemia Interactive to cease their operation, stating that the mod "undermines the work done by the original team" and that it "challenges the basic game design aspects that DayZ is built upon."

Players are charged between $5 and $20 to play on a specific server, but can earn back money by scoring kills, giving the game an additional gambling element that Bohemia isn't too keen on. It's a well organised operation, the quality of their website is proof of that, and even if the studio aren't happy with what they're doing, it's obviously appealing to a sizeable amount of DayZ players.

A spokesperson from the studio told VG247:

"While we fully support modifications created by the community to improve the gaming experience for players of DayZ and ArmA II, we do not support their creators putting a cost on them. As commercially exploiting their small additions to DayZ undermines the work done by the original team."

"We believe that the elements of gambling that DayZ Bounty introduces challenges the basic game design aspects that DayZ is built upon. It changes the focus of DayZ from being a creative, enjoyable, gritty gaming experience to a game that is based almost solely on financial gain and that is not something we want to be associated with. We will be contacting the owners of the DayZ Bounty website directly over the coming days, to ask that they cease their activities in their current form."

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"While fun is there to be had and DayZ is still able to offer up uniquely intense flashes of quality, it's not enough to make this an essential survival experience in 2019."
