As we've reported before, a group of modders were attempting to bring the Red Dead Redemption map to Grand Theft Auto V, and we use the phrase 'were' here as the team has recently been contacted by an unknown party and now the project is being scrapped.
"I know this is [a] hard pill to swallow, but as you may have noticed we did get contacted and we sadly have to say we are stopping this project. So thanks guys, we were all so happy to see this, but it isn't going to happen, sorry," modder Mr. Leisurewear said on the GTA forums.
"For the record this was never going to be a "PC port" it was just gonna be the map [...] Undertaking this sort of a project with additional content ported over was never feasible, we were only gonna get a way to convert the map with both legal copies of each game, and some custom scripted additional content, there was never any intention or mention to either port a story mode over from RDR to V," they said in a later post.
It's not clear who they were contacted by specifically, but it's likely to be either Rockstar or Take-Two Interactive. Mr. Leisurewear did reassure people, however, that they're not getting rid of their work, so there's still a glimmer of hope that in the future the project may still be possible in some way. Would you have liked to see the map come to GTA V?
