We had a chat with Supergiant Games' studio director and co-founder Amir Rao after having played a bit of their third game Pyre during PAX East 2017.

Pyre isn't the same sort of isometrical action-RPG as Bastion and Transistor, yet somehow it is unmistakingly a Supergiant Games production:

"One of the most flattering things that people say is that they can still tell it's us eventhough we're trying something new and different with this games," says Amir Rao. "It's a party-based RPG so it has a larger cast of characters that you can get closer to and that even translates into the gameplay where you control multiple characters in these mystical competitions. Still with all that change and it's not another isometric action-RPG people are still sort of allowing us to do this and are excited about it."

"We always want to make these rich game worlds that are filled with mystery and with questions and our creative director Greg [Kasavin] who works on this game I think has done an amazing job at creating a new world here," says studio director Amir Rao. [The world] has a lot of lore you can dive into if you if you're interested in figuring out more about this world and the characters in it."

The interview also revolved around the decision choice of allowing players to lose rites and continue on as well as the versus mode that was playable at PAX East 2017.

Pyre is set for release in 2017 on PC and PlayStation 4.
