Valve's popular shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has received a new map called Canals, which takes inspired from various locations in reality, most obviously Venice. The map's design is in fact very straight, granting maximum visibility to all the players, and open areas are placed next to narrow hallways to mix close and ranged combat. Also, as explained on the CS:GO blog, "the aesthetics are intentionally clean and uncluttered for good player visibility. In addition, many of the environmental models are built in a modular fashion so they can be easily re-used by community map makers."

In addition to the new map, the player models of the Phoenix Terrorists in CS:GO have been updated to improve "character legibility and [...] overall visual fidelity."

Also added is the Spectrum Case: "Introducing the Spectrum Case, featuring 17 Community-designed weapon finishes. In the Spectrum Case, the rare special item will be the second generation of knives in Chroma finishes."

You can check out some screens of the new map below, but be sure to visit the CS:GO blog for further information. Is this map a breath of fresh air for CS:GO?
