The rumors about a Halo-movie is back! Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp and studios Universal and Fox have all dropped the project, but now there are rumors that Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks are getting interested in picking it up. The reason is the huge Halo: Reach-sales, all according to Vulture.

They don't want to do a regular movie, instead they are supposedly going through all the Halo-books to find a fitting story. But an anonymous source inside Microsoft told Vulture that the company is no longer interested in turning Halo into a film. "It's a gigantic waste of time," the source said, "because [Microsoft] doesn't want anything to happen in any other media that could screw up a multi-billion dollar franchise. Somebody has to be in control of a movie; it's a director's medium. But they're completely averse to that. Because if Steven Spielberg fucks it up, what's your recourse? So the rule is: ‘First, do no harm.'"
