Codemasters returned to the world of Micro Machines last year, releasing a free-to-play top-down racer of classical proportions over on iOS, and it looks like we're getting a second lap at some point in 2017.

The news comes via XboxAchievements, who shared concept art purportedly for a new console-bound Micro Machines game. They don't divulge their source, and they've got no concrete intel, instead they offer the same educated guess that we'd have made; that it's a fleshed out version of the mobile game that we played last year.

Meanwhile, over on Neogaf there's a packshot for Micro Machines: World Series on Xbox One, but it's not conclusively genuine, so while this is all entirely plausible, we're going to wait for official confirmation on this one before we start getting excited. Still, if this is the real deal, we're very much up for the return of a series that specialises in good old fashioned local rivalry.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"Throw in the lack of modes and you're left with a game that may well struggle to hold the attention of its audience over time."
