Super Mario Run has surpassed 40 million download around the world less than four days after launch, said Nintendo in a press release. This makes it the fastest downloaded title on the history of the App Store, an impressive feat indeed.

Nintendo figures confirm that Super Mario Run ranks first among free game downloads in 140 countries, and also made the Top 10 list of paid apps across 100 countries, but the company refuses to share how many of these 40 million players actually get the full game that you have to pay for.

Shigeru Miyamoto said he is happy for bringing a new Mario game to many people from all over the world and expects many more will swtich from the free-to-play to the paid version of the game gradually. Apple's Worldwide Senior Vice President of Marketing, Phil Schiller, said Super Mario Run's new record of 40 million downloads in four days was totally unexpected at the company.

Super Mario Run just received its first big update, a new game mode for soft-competitive play called Friendly Run. The game is not yet available for Android devices, however. Have you got the free or paid version?
