Spore problems
So, Spore was released today, and the reviews are starting to tick in. Overall people are very happy with the game, so am I. But, now that the game is out some problems have started to arise for some players who bought the games early this morning.
People can't seem to start the game due to the fact that Electronic Arts' licensing server is down. This is the server that the game must contact when you start the game to check that you indeed have a valid copy of the game. This, to be honest, is the worst offense to paying customers that any company can do. They are basically treating their customers like criminals.
Listen EA, we paid good money for the game and if we want to play that game now, shouldn't we be allowed to do so? I find the whole use of Digital Rights Management to be stupid, it doesn't keep the pirates away, it only annoys paying customers in the long run. And yes, I do understand the need to protect your property and all that jazz. But this is not the way, pirates can and will find away around any and all DRM in the end. The whole race to keep the pirates out for as long as possible is detrimental to the industry as a whole.
Please do comment if you are having problems, I've already gotten a phone call from a friend who's been trying to play for a couple of hours now.
As of the time of this article going up, we have yet to receive any word from EA on the state of the server or an ETA on when it's coming up. Hopefully it will work again soon.
Edit: If you are using the Mac version you can circumvent the whole thing by ending the second process called Spore and letting the first one do its magic. Might not work for everyone.

Burner, here in the office told me he installed and played it for 1 hour this morning before he went to work. He also noticed that the EA server were down, but he was still able to make a full install and play the game.
Besides that, Burner played Spore on a PC ^^
Are you sure? Because a friend of mine can't even start it because of the error. And I had to crash the second Spore process before it started properly to be able to play, circumventing the whole activation process. :/ Strange.

Incidentally, both of us are running the Mac version.
You should be able to play anyways, but not able to use the online services...
