Gearbox owns Duke Nukem

After its re-reveal at PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) this weekend, Duke Nukem Forever, is currently the most talked about game on the Internet, and it has now been revealed that the new developer Gearbox Software actually acquired the rights to Duke Nukem.

"We actually bought the brand. We bought Duke Nukem," Randy Pitchford told the press at PAX.

A press release added further details:

"Gearbox Software announced today that it has acquired the full intellectual property rights of the 'Duke Nukem' brand including Duke Nukem Forever and all future projects in a cooperative deal made with 3D Realms. The first product to be available under the Duke Nukem brand will be the long awaited Duke Nukem Forever."

Sounds like we're in for more Duke Nukem in the future, and we're not complaining.
