Norwegian startup The Future Group has recently received some serious attention for their new technology which they themselves refer to as 'mixed reality', as this technology puts real people in a virtual reality where they can take part in immersive experiences such as racing Formula 1 cars in Monte Carlo or flying between skyscrapers, all with a little help from the Unreal Engine.

As reported by the Norwegian financial news site Finansavisen, investors have been very interested in being a part of this, with the Ferd group contributing with the most (11 million Euros). Now this technology will be used in a new TV show called Lost in Time.

The game show will put contestants in a virtual reality (in the studio) where they'll play through different gaming experiences, all while people watching at home can play against them using a smartphone or a tablet. Lost in Time will be developed by the production company Freemantle Media, and the technology is delivered by The Future Group.

The Future Group has also received support from Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, who believes in the tech. The company was founded by Bård Anders Kasin and Jens Petter Høili a few years back, and Høili is an experienced entrepreneur, while Kasin has a background in special effects. Back in 2002, at the age of 22, Kasin was signed as technical director on The Matrix Revolutions, and that's where he is supposed to have gotten the idea for today's technology.

"We believe Mixed Reality will be the next big thing. We put real people in a virtual world and let the viewers at home take part via smartphones. Picture yourself a contestant driving a virtual Formula 1 car in Monaco Grand Prix. You can watch this person drive on your TV screen, all while you compete in your own car via your phone," Bård Anders Kasin said to the Norwegian news site Dagbladet.

No date has been set for Lost in Time yet other than 'spring 2017', but to find out more about The Future Group you can check out their website. Do you think the idea behind Lost in Time sounds good?
