One of the major announcements from Nintendo's conference today was the confirmation that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 would be appearing on the Wii U. Although Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg didn't confirm release dates (it launches on other platforms two weeks before, so having at as "day one launch title" will likely be the goal) and pricing, fans of the series who're considering investing in Nintendo's latest console will likely be delighted with what they saw.

The game is go to run in full HD, and at a very respectable 60 frames per second. Interestingly, we'll be able to play the game directly from the Wii U Gamepad, with no need for the TV to be on, perfect for those who have to endure a regular struggle for control of the living room.

We already know plenty about the Black Ops 2, so all the talk of future weaponry and drone technology has been covered before. The new create-a-class feature will roll out across all platforms, but on the Wii U the feature will be accessible on the second screen, so you'll be able to "change your load-out on the fly," or call in a streak via the Gamepad. Equally, those more at home with a different controller will be able to use any of the Wii U's controllers to play the game.

We also know about the branching story lines, non-linear gameplay (a first for the franchise), and that we'll be seeing more zombies in Black Ops 2, but what we didn't know was that using the Wii U Gamepad, local players will be able to play split-screen without sharing a screen. One player will have the TV and the other will play on the Gamepad.

The presentation looked very polished, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is looking like a very good port of an already good looking game. With the added Wii U functionality, it seems that the newly announced version of Black Ops 2 may be the best of the lot. Though we'll reserve final judgement on that until we've had a better look.

REVIEW. Written by Mathias Holmberg

"It's made up of some of the most boring missions in the history of the franchise...at times this feels like a pastiche - a parody."
