Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII

The 25 year anniversary events are coming in thick and fast from Japan and this weekend it was time for Final Fantasy to have its anniversary event and Square Enix took the opportunity to announced Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII - the conclusion to Lightning's story. Some artwork from the game has been released as you can see below.

The concept of the game is that the world faces armageddon in 13 days, and obviously this is where Lightning comes into play. Square highlighted a fresh approach the dubbed "world driven" at the presentation - the idea being that the world and its characters facing extinction is a major part of the experience, but the world is also constantly moving, changing, with the sun rising and setting and dynamic events providing players with a unique experience.

"We are pleased to reveal that Lightning is returning as the playable character in this title, and are excited to see how fans react to the more direct battle system and expansive environment that can be explored at will" said Producer Yoshinori Kitase.

Motomu Toriyama, Director added; "Increased levels of player freedom, customisation and connectivity with the real world, will ensure that this concluding chapter will be an exhilarating finale to Lightning's story."

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is set for release next year on PS3 and Xbox 360.
