Blizzard have backtracked on a controversial proposed system whereby forums users would be forced to post under their real names. Posting on the Battle.net forum, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime explained the situation.
"We've been constantly monitoring the feedback you've given us, as well as internally discussing your concerns about the use of real names on our forums. As a result of those discussions, we've decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums."
The full statement can be found here. The decision follows an outpouring of fan disapproval culminating in the publication of the personal details of one unfortunate forum moderator.
"We will always appreciate the feedback and support of our players," adds Morhaime, "which has been a key to Blizzard's success from the beginning."
Oh Blizzard, we love you again.
