The second major expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is almost upon us. Blood and Wine, which introduces a new area for players to explore and plenty of new quests to tackle, is set to make an appearance on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 31.
Blood and Wine follows first expansion Hearts of Stone, as CDPR continues to flesh out its excellent RPG. However, those among us hoping that the studio were going to continue producing expansions for Wild Hunt will be disappointed by the news that there are no plans to create any more adventures for Geralt of Rivia.
Confirmation came via our interview with CD Projekt Red lead technical designer Matthew Steinke during Nordic Game, who told us that the plan has always been to wrap things up with the second expansion, and that there will definitely be no third expansion. Simply put, he told us: "Blood and Wine will be the final expansion for The Witcher 3."
This echoes a recent statement from CDPR co-founder Marcin Iwinski, who told Eurogamer: "As we said before, never say never [but] right now it's really Blood and Wine. This is the end."
"Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won't be any Witcher any time soon - if there ever will be one. And I would really like to see how people feel about it, if they will enjoy it."
We're playing Blood and Wine and will deliver our verdict on what is perhaps the final chapter of Geralt's adventure later this week.
