Kathy Rain is inspired by Buffy, Ellen Ripley and Veronica Mars

We caught up with Joel Staaf Hästö from Clifftop Games whose adventure game Kathy Rain is nearing completion. We had a chat about strong female leads, voice acting and Swedish Easter eggs.

"Kathy Rain is a point and click adventure game, takes place in 1995 in a remote small town in the US," says Staaf Hästö. "You play as Kathy who is this strong willed girl detective type character. She rides a motocycle, smokes a lot. She doesn't take shit from anybody."

"The basic premise is that she returns to her home town after being away since childhood. And becomes pulled into this great mystery surrounding the town. It's basically a small town mystery."

Kathy Rain is obviously a strong female lead and Staaf Hästö revealed some of his inspirations:

"I've been inspired by strong female protagonists from all sort of different medium like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Ellen Ripley or Veronica Mars. And I knew I wanted to do my own take on this sort of strong willed woman protagonist."

Kathy Rain is nearing release and should be available in "a few months" on Steam.
