Assassin's Creed has been a yearly release for a some time now, and therefore everyone is anticipating where this year's release will be set, and what form it will take. Apparently though, Assassin's Creed 2016 has been cancelled according to a developer who's working on the project. The developer took to 4chan (via Autoomobile) and said the following:

"Egypt. There won't be an AC in 2016. You may screencap this and refer to it when nothing is shown in E3 2016. You'll have to wait until 2017 for it. The reason: It will be a complete revamp of the series. The game is going for a Witcher feel, with player progression, freeform combat system. Horse is back, and boats too. It's made by the Black Flag team. You may leave any question you want answered."

Will a complete revamp and a year off be enough to return the franchise to past glories? Who knows what's going on over at Ubisoft, and for now it'd be sensible to take this unconfirmed report with a pinch of salt.
