Bungie has outlined a few key changes coming to their two chief competitive PvP game modes. First up there's Iron Banner, and while your gear will still matter in this week-long playlist, the studio are reworking the damage system to reflect the new gear added in The Taken King expansion.

Fireteam leaders need to be level 40, and it's recommended that you're Light 230. Drop rates have been increased, so you'll get the bulk of your rewards from that, although if you visit Lord Saladin you'll be spending more Legendary Marks. Finally, there's new bounties on the way (nine daily and three weekly), and the tempered buff will automatically be added.

There's also changes of significance are coming to Trials of Osiris. Fireteam leaders will need Light 251, and the recommended minimum is Light 290. Gear will drop after each match from now on, and the more matches you the win the better gear you'll get. Also, you'll be able to carry on playing past nine wins, although the quality of gear will plateau at that point.

Aside from new bounties that offer players the chance to earn nice gear without winning the games needed to visit the Lighthouse, the most significant change is actually under the hood: in matchmaking teams are more likely to face off against teams with a comparable number of wins under their collective belt, so getting top billing will likely get harder and harder.

Iron Banner is set to return to Destiny on October 13, while Trials of Osiris is coming on October 16. More details on the revisions to the modes can be found here. Both PvP modes were taken out of circulation for a while after the launch of The Taken King, and you can read our review of the expansion here.
