After the release of Prototype 2 Activision have decided to "significantly reduce" the number of staff at Radical Entertainment. Stopping short of a full closure, Activision decided to retain some staff to work on other Activision projects, but ultimately it looks as if Radical's days are numbered.

A statement released by the publisher reads as follows:

"Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience. Radical is a very talented team of developers, however, we have explored various options for the studio, including a potential sale of the business, and have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff. As such, some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects, but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward."

Radical Entertainment was founded back in 1991 and over the course of the years they have worked on a number of different franchises and properties including the following diverse titles - Beavis and Butt-Head (1993, Mega Drive), Mario is Missing! (1993, NES), Grid Runner (1995, PC/Saturn/Playstation), Jackie Chan Stuntmaster (2000, Playstation), The Simpsons: Road Rage (2001, GC/PS2/Xbox), The Simpsons: Hit & Run (2003, GC/PC/PS2/Xbox), The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (2005, GC/PS2/Xbox), Scarface: The World is Yours (2006, PC/PS2/Wii/Xbox), Crash: Mind over Mutant (2008, PS2/Wii/Xbox 360), Prototype (2009, PC/PS3/Xbox 360) & Prototype 2 (2012, PC/PS3/Xbox 360). In total they are credited with work on well over 30 titles.

"It is in the Red Zone that the game comes into its own with chaotic, bloody, brutal, mutant madness."
