Contra next for Mercury Steam?

While Dave Cox and the team at Mercury Steam have made it known they intend Lords of Shadow 2 to be their last entry in the Castlevania universe, the question's obviously raised: where next?

It seems they've got their eye on reinvigorating another classic Konami franchise: Contra.

Speaking to VG247, Cox was open of his love for the shooter series: "I love Contra. I'd love to do Contra," he explained.

However, there's nothing concrete on the cards, only an idea and the hope that sales from Lords of Shadow 2 are healthy enough to allow them the green light.

"At Mercury Steam we've got an original idea that I think is really awesome," he says. "We'd love to bring that idea to market and I'm hoping that the success of Lords of Shadow 2 will allow us to do that."
