HTC and Valve's virtual reality headset Vive is set for a general public release early next year. The news comes via a press release regarding the headset's appearance at PAX this weekend, and there it states that community and developer units would be sent out in a "limited" quantity in 2015, with more following them in Q1 2016.

In other Vive news, there have been over 10,000 dev kit enquiries, and they're boasting that there's currently 80 games in development for the platform. With plenty of games in the works and with dev kits on the way to developers from here on in, the Vive should be well-placed to provide stiff competition for similar headsets Oculus and Morpheus, both of which are launching next year.

If you want to know more about the Steam-powered VR headset, we noted down some impressions following our recent hands-on, and you can find them here.
